...was “The Sleeping Beauty” by Trevor Nicol
The Sleeping Beauty is a traditional family pantomime, written by Trevor Nicol of The Florians, reviving a script first performed by the group in 1997. It is the usual story of a wicked fairy, who puts Princess Beauty under a spell where she goes to sleep for 100 years. Will the Prince find her and release her from the spell? Will everyone live happy ever after? Will there be songs and dancing and jokes?
Oh yes there will!
Performances were from Friday December 7th to Saturday December 15th, at 7:30pm, and matinees on both Saturdays at 2:30pm. There was no Sunday performance.

To mark Scotland's year of Highland culture 2007, the Florians and the Inverness Gaelic Drama Group put on a joint production of a specially commissioned play about the Brahan Seer. In what is thought to be a first for theatre in Scotland, this one act play has both English and Gaelic scripts, and both versions were performed on the same nights.
The play by Norman Campbell is a light-hearted look at the story of Coinneach Odhar, the Brahan Seer. The myths around this 17th century prophet cannot disguise the fact that much of what he saw through his 'blue stone' has come true; he foresaw Culloden, the Caledonian Canal, trains, roads, oil, the Highland clearances, and these and more form part of the play. His death after one accurate prediction too many brings the play to a close.
Both the Gaelic and English versions were directed by Allan Holling of the Florians. The two separate casts learned from each other, and the backstage crew duties were shared. The production was supported by live music from the local feis, Feis na h-Oige, in what was a thoroughly entertaining evening.
The world premier of this new play was on 27th June with further performances on 28th and 29th. The play is suitable for all ages and for all levels of Gaelic and English speaker.
We would like to acknowledge the assistance of Highland 2007 and the Scottish Arts Council; this production would not have been possible without their generous support.

The Odd Couple was a hit Broadway play in 1965. The plot concerns two mismatched room-mates, one uptight and the other slovenly. Simon was inspired to write the play when he saw his brother Danny Simon and theatrical agent Roy Gerber living together after recent divorces.
