The Florians Theatre - About Us
We are an amateur dramatics club based in the City of Inverness - the "Capital of the Highlands" - in Scotland. Founded in 1944 for the purpose of entertaining the troops stationed in the town during WW2, we nowadays do about five productions a year. Our shows have ranged from comedy, to drama, to musicals, to panto, therefore our dynamic theatre can stage almost any type of productions.
We have our own wee theatre, converted from an old Nissen Hut, which was formerly a temporary library building, and then a community centre. Over the last few years we have installed new tiered seating and updated our sound and lighting departments in the production box. We also still have some ongoing work to the theatre, including painting, flooring, and ordering new flats for the stage.
Our theatre has the capacity for 98 paying customers, up from the original 35-40 we managed to fit in when we first took over the building. We originally used "The Green Hut" as a store and rehearsal space, and performed in Eden Court Theatre on tour. This became uneconomical, so we made a start towards turning this green hut into the luxurious theatre you can see today.

If I am part of a show, how often will I be needed? This varies with each show, but generally rehearsals are twice a week - mostly Mondays and Wednesdays although this is not set in stone. How often you are required will be dependent on the role you have within the show, but the director will give you this information. You will also be required for the evenings of the show week for both a technical and a dress rehearsal, as as well as the performance dates themselves. Depending on the show, there may be a matinee on the Saturday, but this will be made clear at the start of the rehearsal process.
What facilities are there at the theatre? We have ramp access to our theatre at the front door and the availability of disabled seating in the front row of the auditorium. There are toilets available within the theatre. We accept both cash and card for when purchasing refreshments at the interval.
Do you sell show programmes? Yes. Prior to the show we have programmes and raffle tickets on sale. We will call the raffle during the interval just prior to the second half of the show commencing. There are usually prizes of wine and chocolates so make sure to get some tickets!
Are there any snacks available? Yes. During the interval we will be selling ice cream, juice, and water.
