A First Hand Farce

A First Hand Farce is an original play by local writer Dave Smith from Tain. With the assistance of the Inverness Playwrights group, a number of original plays were submitted for consideration to Florians, and Smith's play was selected for the one act festival. In this humourous play, Smith plays up the classic elements of farce with witty dialogue and comic situations. A writer is interrupted when a vicar arrives at the door collecting for charity. They soon discover that what gets written on the writer's computer comes to pass. A young woman, conjured up by the vicar, and the writer's wife get in on the action as well, leading to a surprising and hilarious conclusion.

The Competition
This was our first SCDA entry after the pandemic and we were so pleased to be involved in this process again! On 25th February 2022 we took "A First Hand Farce" to Regionals at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre where we were awarded the Marion MacKenzie Award for Stage Presentation, and overall 2nd Place Trophy. This put us through to the Divisionals round, which took place on 25th March, again at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre. After this round we were awarded the Caroline Groves Trophy for overall 2nd place, putting us through to the Scottish Finals in Orkney!

After making some tweaks to our set and direction following feedback from previous adjudicators, we travelled up to Orkney in April 2022. Sadly, this was where our SCDA journey ended on this occasion, but we had the best time meeting a lot of great people and experiencing the best of Orkney hospitality.
There was such a high standard of theatre throughout each of the rounds and so we were extremely pleased to have got as far as we did in the competition. We received some amazing feedback from the adjudicators as well as the audiences, and we are very proud of our 2022 team! |
