Alyssa Nicol
Alyssa started off in the theatre at a very young age being brought along to rehearsals whilst her parents performed, directed, choreographed various shows. She appeared in her first Florians production, Babes In The Wood, at the age of four and once the Junior Florians formed in 1994 she appeared in The Voyage of The Jumblies as the little girl being told the story. From that moment on Alyssa performed in a host of different productions in Inverness including Margaret Firth’s Merry Go Round, the Florians’ play Bold Girls in 2004 and playing Louise in Carousel with Inverness Opera Company in 2005. Alyssa was one of the first students to be invited to take part in Eden Court’s Higher Dance programme even although she was only taking her Standard Grades at the time.
Alyssa left Inverness at the age of sixteen to train at the Dance School of Scotland in Glasgow where she performed in Bat Boy the Musical and Copacabana at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow. She then furthered her training in England at Arts Educational Schools London. During her 2nd year of training she was lucky enough to work on a professional pantomime at Bournemouth Pavilion where she was cast as Wendy Darling in Peter Pan, starring alongside Barney Harwood, best known for his work with CBBC. In her third and final year at Arts Educational, she performed in Jerry Springer the Opera and Cats where she played the part of Rumpleteazer and worked with the original choreographer Dame Gillian Lynne.
After graduating from Arts Ed in 2010, with a BA (hons) degree in musical theatre, Alyssa went straight on to work on the number one UK and Ireland tour of The Really Useful Group’s The Sound of Music where she understudied Liesl Von Trapp and worked alongside Connie Fisher, Michael Praed, Jason Donovan and Verity Rushworth. The Sound of Music took Alyssa all over the world where she reprised her role in Jordan, Hong Kong, mainland China and Indonesia. In 2014 she played Rosemary Pilkington in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
Moving on from musical theatre, Alyssa was asked to help out as a lighting operator for a company specialising in extravagant royal weddings for Middle Eastern Princesses taking place in Dubai, Doha, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Most recently Alyssa has been a caller and singer for London’s top ceilidh and covers band, Licence To Ceilidh, specialising in weddings and private events for many celebrities including Kirsty Wark, Ed Miliband, Toby Jones, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster.
