Debbie Rose
After leaving Inverness at 21 to develop her career in the events industry, with a brief stint in Mexico teaching English and a short time running a bar and restaurant in Edinburgh, Debbie now looks after account development at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
One of her first challenges at EICC was to create a successful Fringe programme to boost the centre’s revenue in August, a typically quiet conference month as the city is so busy with the International and Fringe Festival. The centre now boasts an increase in footfall from 25000 to 100000 in less than 3 years and hosts international circus acts such as Cirque Elozie and Cirque Berserk with a line up of internationally acclaimed comedians such as Frankie Boyle, Reginald D Hunter, Daniel Sloss and Iain Stirling.
Debbie says she been incredibly lucky to welcome international actors, politicians and activists to the EICC, in the last 4 years hosting George Clooney, Leonardo Di Caprio, Michelle Obama, President Obama, Bob Geldof, John Cleese, Rob Brydon, Russell Brand and more as keynote speakers at conferences in Edinburgh.
This year a career highlight for Debbie was co-ordinating the winning bid to host TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) talks in Edinburgh watched by millions online, in competition with Melbourne and Singapore.
Debbie says her experience at Junior Florians has been absolutely invaluable, giving her the confidence to speak in front of lots of important people. She recommends amateur drama, not only for those interested in a career in theatre but as a great platform for building connections and growing confidence.
Debbie says “Happy 75th Birthday Florians. You rock. Keep up the ace work!”
